Village in the Shade is officially coming to Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch in the West. NIS America has confirmed that the game will launch in North America and Europe on October 27, 2026, alongside PlayStation 5 and PC.
The game originally launched in Japan on July 30 under the name Hono Gurashi no Niwa. However, western players will not have to wait much longer to explore its unusual mix of peaceful village life and Japanese horror.
Village in the Shade Mixes Farming With Horror
At first glance, Village in the Shade looks like a relaxing rural life simulator. Players can grow crops, raise animals, fish, hunt and craft items while building relationships with the people living nearby.
However, the village has another side.
Residents follow strange traditions and rules, while unsettling events begin to appear as players spend more time in the area. Therefore, everyday activities such as farming and exploring gradually sit alongside a much darker mystery.
Nighttime is especially important. Strange creatures can appear after dark, and exploring the surrounding areas becomes far more dangerous. As a result, Village in the Shade separates itself from more traditional farming games without abandoning the slower life-sim systems at its core.
Japanese folklore also plays a major role in the setting. Instead of simply adding monsters to a farming game, the developers use the village itself, its residents and its customs to create an increasingly uncomfortable atmosphere.
Switch 2 Players Get the Western Release This Fall
Village in the Shade will be available for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and PC on October 27.
The game has already found an audience in Japan, where shipments and digital sales passed 100,000 shortly after release. Now, the western version will give more players a chance to see how its unusual combination of farming, exploration and horror works.
For Nintendo Switch 2 owners who enjoy life sims but want something darker than the usual cozy farming formula, Village in the Shade is shaping up to be one of the more unusual releases arriving later this year.
