Final Fantasy Resonance is getting a playable demo on September 4. Square Enix confirmed the news alongside a new trailer shown during State of Play.
The latest footage also reveals Demon Fina and includes a battle featuring Sephiroth. Final Fantasy Resonance launches for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on October 22, 2026.
Final Fantasy Resonance Demo Launches September 4
The new demo will give players an early look at Final Fantasy Resonance before its full release in October.
Square Enix has not detailed everything included in the demo yet. However, it should provide a useful first look at the game’s combat, visual style and party systems. The timing also gives Switch and Switch 2 players several weeks to try the game before launch.
Sephiroth Appears in the New Trailer
The latest trailer puts more attention on the game’s larger Final Fantasy connections.
Demon Fina appears during the footage, while Sephiroth is shown in a battle sequence. His exact role has not been fully explained.Final Fantasy Resonance uses a system called Visions, which connects the party with characters and abilities from across Final Fantasy history. This system gives the game room to bring familiar faces into its combat without changing the main cast.
Turn-Based Combat With Stagger Mechanics
The story is based on the first season of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, but Final Fantasy Resonance is not simply a direct remake. Square Enix has rebuilt the material as a new RPG with its own presentation and gameplay structure. The HD-2D visual style is one of the biggest changes and gives familiar locations and characters a different look.
The game also includes additional challenges such as the Colosseum and Chamber of Arms.
Coming to Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 in October
FF Resonance launches on October 22, 2026, for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
The two Nintendo versions are sold separately. Square Enix currently does not plan an upgrade path between them, and save data cannot be transferred from Switch to Switch 2.
With the demo arriving on September 4, Nintendo players will not have to wait long to see how this new version of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius plays.
