Dragon Quest Monsters 4 Reveals New Roguelike Content in Latest Trailer

Dragon Quest Monsters 4 has received a new trailer ahead of its December release. The footage introduces new roguelike-style content and shows more of Bianca and Flora’s journey through the Withered Tree Kingdom.

The game is coming to Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on December 3, 2026.

New Roguelike Content Revealed

The latest trailer gives the first look at a new roguelike element in Dragon Quest Monsters 4. Square Enix has not explained every rule yet. However, the footage shows Bianca and Flora exploring dangerous areas while building a party of monsters.

The structure appears to add more variety to the usual monster collecting and battling formula. Players will still recruit creatures and use them in combat, but this new content could make each run feel less predictable. More details about the mode are expected before launch.

Bianca and Flora Take the Lead

Dragon Quest Monsters 4 places Bianca and Flora from Dragon Quest V at the center of the story. This time, both characters appear in their younger forms. Their adventure begins after they arrive in the mysterious Withered Tree Kingdom.

They soon gain the ability to form bonds with monsters. From there, collecting and raising creatures becomes a major part of their journey. The new setting also gives the game a different identity from earlier Dragon Quest Monsters entries.

Monster Raising Remains at the Core

The familiar Dragon Quest Monsters systems are still an important part of the game.

Players can recruit monsters, train them and create stronger creatures through synthesis. Different combinations can lead to new monsters, giving players more ways to shape their team.

The latest footage also shows monsters travelling alongside Bianca and Flora outside of battle. This helps make the party feel more connected to the world rather than existing only during combat.

Coming to Nintendo Switch and Switch 2

Dragon Quest Monsters 4: The Withered Tree Kingdom’s Bianca & Flora launches on December 3, 2026.

The game will be available on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, alongside other platforms. With its new roguelike content, returning synthesis system and a story built around Bianca and Flora, the next Dragon Quest Monsters game is beginning to show more of what will separate it from earlier entries.
