Pokémon Pokopia now lets players take their town-building ideas below the surface. Once Diving is unlocked, many of the familiar building tools continue to work underwater.
You can place blocks, shape the terrain, build houses, and even grow crops beneath the water. However, there are a few differences compared with building on land.
How to Unlock Underwater Building
Before you can start building underwater, you first need to unlock the Diving ability.
Manaphy teaches Diving after you make enough progress in Gloomy Seaside Town. You also need to meet several requirements, including learning Splash and Surf.
Once Diving becomes available, you can freely explore underwater areas and begin building there.
Movement is also simple. Hold B to swim, use L to move downward, and press R to rise.
How to Build Houses Underwater
Most basic building works almost the same underwater as it does on land.
You can place regular blocks and create walls, floors, and other structures. You can also use abilities such as Rock Smash and Roll to change the terrain before building.
However, not every structure works underwater. Some Building Kit objects cannot be placed below the surface, so you may need to rely more heavily on individual blocks.
Pokémon that can operate underwater can also join you while you build and explore.
How Block Floats Work
Bubbly Basin introduces a useful building item called the Block Float.
Unlike normal blocks, a Block Float does not need to connect to the ground. Instead, it can remain suspended in the water.
This makes it possible to build structures in the middle of the water rather than starting everything from the seabed.
While holding a block underwater, you can also press ZL to stop moving. This makes precise placement much easier when working on floating structures.
Can You Farm Underwater?
Yes. Farming also works underwater.
Players can till the ground and grow crops just as they do on land. Pokémon with farming-related abilities can help as well.
For example, Corsola can assist with cultivation, while Mudkip can help water crops. Sea grapes and watermelons are among the crops that can be grown underwater.
Once harvested, these crops can be eaten or used for cooking.
What Else Can You Build Underwater?
Underwater towns are not completely separated from your existing areas.
Minecart tracks can extend from land into the water, which means you can connect older towns with new underwater construction.
You can also dig through parts of the seabed, gather blocks and materials, and create habitats for Pokémon.
The biggest limitation is that some Building Kit structures and certain abilities cannot be used underwater. Still, most of Pokémon Pokopia’s basic town-building systems remain available.
That gives players plenty of room to experiment, whether they want a simple house on the seabed or an entire floating settlement in Bubbly Basin.
