Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is bringing Lara Croft to Nintendo Switch 2 with a much larger take on her original adventure. A new Gamescom 2026 demonstration has now revealed more of the Greece section, alongside several systems that change how exploration, puzzles and combat work.
The latest gameplay took place beneath St. Francis’ Folly, where Lara enters a vast underground complex inspired by ancient Greece. While the location comes from the original Tomb Raider, its scale and layout have been expanded considerably for Legacy of Atlantis.
The Damocles Trial Returns

One of the highlights was the Damocles Trial, a familiar area built around enormous swords falling from the ceiling.
The idea remains recognizable, but the trap has been redesigned with more detailed physics and sound. Falling swords hit the ground with considerably more weight, turning what was once a relatively simple obstacle into a much more threatening section.
Lara also has more ways to move through these environments. Her new grapple can activate mechanisms, help her reach higher areas and allow her to swing across large gaps.
These abilities are not simply additions to movement. They are being incorporated directly into puzzle and level design, giving Lara more ways to interact with the environment.
Crafting and Skills Give Lara More Options

Legacy of Atlantis also introduces crafting and a skill tree. During the demonstration, Lara collected materials and prepared food that temporarily increased her resistance to trap damage. Skills can also change how certain situations are approached.
However, progression does not appear to lock players out of puzzles. The developers explained that abilities such as Deadeye are optional. Players should still be able to solve these sections without investing in specific upgrades. That approach could help the game retain the puzzle-focused structure of the original while adding modern progression systems around it.
Combat Is Becoming More Dynamic

The Greece demo also featured a battle against a leopard, and the encounter showed another change from the original adventure. Instead of attacking Lara directly at all times, the leopard can move out of sight and use nearby caves or rocks to prepare an ambush. Listening for its footsteps becomes important when the animal disappears from view.
Successful attacks fill Lara’s Focus Meter. Once activated, Focus slows time and allows her to perform more precise acrobatic shots. This mechanic had previously appeared during the Peru section against raptors. Exploration also comes with additional rewards. Finding collectible Relics can unlock outfits inspired by earlier Tomb Raider games, including clothing based on Lara’s appearance in Tomb Raider: Legend.
A Bigger Version of Lara’s First Adventure

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is not structured as an open-world game. It remains a story-driven action adventure, but individual areas are being expanded to allow more exploration. Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog are also rebuilding environments rather than simply recreating their original layouts. The official Tomb Raider site previously confirmed that areas such as Peru’s Lost Valley now feature interconnected spaces and new ways to approach puzzles.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis launches on February 12, 2027 for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
