The Witcher 3 Remastered is officially coming to Nintendo Switch 2, giving Geralt’s massive RPG a native version on Nintendo’s new hardware. CD Projekt Red confirmed that the remastered release will arrive on September 29, 2026. Better yet, players who already own The Witcher 3 on the original Nintendo Switch will be able to upgrade to the Switch 2 version for free.
The new version goes beyond a simple resolution bump. CD Projekt Red says The Witcher 3 Remastered will include improvements to visuals, performance and gameplay. Environmental details, NPCs and monsters are receiving improved textures, while foliage, lighting and rendering have also been reworked.
Nintendo Switch Owners Get a Free Upgrade
The free upgrade is especially important for Nintendo players. CD Projekt Red’s official support page confirms that anyone who owns The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on Nintendo Switch can claim The Witcher 3 Remastered on Nintendo Switch 2 for free once the new version launches.
That means existing Switch players will not need to buy the entire game again just to move to the new hardware. Save files will also remain compatible, while the game’s existing cross-progression support will continue to work.
Both Major Expansions Are Now Included
CD Projekt Red also made another significant change to The Witcher 3. Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine are now included with the base game at no additional cost. Existing owners gain access to both expansions, and the Complete Edition will become the standard version available for purchase.
For Switch owners who previously only purchased the base game, this makes the upgrade considerably more valuable. Blood and Wine alone adds the large Toussaint region, while Hearts of Stone introduces another substantial questline.
A New Witcher 3 Expansion Is Also Coming
The Witcher 3 is not only receiving a remaster. CD Projekt Red also revealed Songs of the Past, a new paid expansion planned for 2027.
The expansion will take Geralt to a completely new region called Letten. CD Projekt Red describes it as a land filled with rural traditions and folklore, although something much darker lies beneath its peaceful appearance. New enemies and additional gameplay elements will also be part of the expansion. Songs of the Past is planned for Nintendo Switch 2 alongside PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
With a native Switch 2 release, free upgrade support and both previous expansions now included, The Witcher 3 Remastered is shaping up to be a much more substantial release than a basic visual refresh. Nintendo players will be able to see the changes for themselves when the remaster launches on September 29.
