Atlus is giving players an early chance to try Metaphor: ReFantazio on Nintendo Switch 2 before launch. The game will be playable at Tokyo Game Show 2026. Visitors will be able to try a special battle-focused challenge created for the event.
The playable section is called Sword Trial. Instead of using a regular part of the campaign, the demo focuses on Metaphor: ReFantazio’s combat system. Atlus has not revealed every detail yet. However, the trial should give players a useful first look at how the RPG feels on Nintendo’s newer hardware.
Metaphor: ReFantazio is heading to Nintendo Switch 2
he Nintendo Switch 2 version of Metaphor: ReFantazio is scheduled to launch on November 12, 2026. The game has already appeared on other platforms, but its Switch 2 release will bring Atlus’ fantasy RPG to Nintendo players for the first time.
Nintendo describes the game as a fantasy RPG built around a mix of turn-based battles and real-time field combat. Its Archetype system allows characters to take on different roles and abilities, while party composition plays a major part in how battles unfold. Stronger enemies can be handled through command-based combat, while weaker opponents can often be defeated directly on the field.
The Switch 2 release is also planned for markets outside Japan, so this is not a Japan-only version. Nintendo has already listed the game for Nintendo Switch 2 in multiple regions, including support for English and several other languages.
Atlus is bringing more than one game to TGS 2026
Metaphor: ReFantazio will not be Atlus’ only playable title at the event. Persona 4 Revival will also be available with two different 15-minute demo options. One focuses on the opening story section, while the other lets players explore a dungeon and take part in battles.
For Nintendo players, however, Metaphor is the more interesting part of the announcement. This will be one of the first opportunities for the public to spend hands-on time with the Switch 2 version before release.
