Warota: I Live Next to The Demon King’s Castle LOL has opened a new public beta on Steam, giving players another look at the unusual village-building action RPG before its planned Nintendo Switch 2 release. The game combines farming, crafting, character classes and real-time combat in a fantasy world where your new home happens to sit next to the Demon King’s castle.
The story takes place in Luna, a ruined world controlled by the Demon King. Players are reincarnated as a rare being known as a Bounder after being saved by a goddess. From there, the goal is to rebuild a settlement while exploring the surrounding world and preparing for monster attacks.
Build and Expand Your Own Village
Village development is a major part of Warota. Players can repair their home, gather materials, grow crops and recruit new residents. Resources can also be used to craft furniture and facilities.
More than 30 different buildings are currently planned. Expanding the settlement gradually attracts more villagers and gives players more options for developing their home base.
Villagers are not simply there for decoration either. They can be assigned useful roles around the settlement or added to the player’s party for exploration and combat.
Change Jobs by Changing Hats
One of the more unusual systems in Warota is tied directly to hats. Wearing a different hat changes the player’s job, with more than 20 classes available.
These range from production-focused jobs such as farmer and lumberjack to combat roles including warrior and mage. Players can switch between them depending on what they need at the time.
The same system also applies to villagers. Giving them different hats allows them to work as farmers, cooks, guards and other roles. Some villagers can even join the party when heading outside the settlement.
Players can further customize their combat setup by praying at goddess statues found throughout the world. These can provide blessings that improve attack power, increase recovery speed or add elemental properties. Multiple blessings can be combined to create different builds.
The Demon King Is Your Worst Neighbor
The peaceful village-building side does not last forever.
The Demon King’s castle is located right beside the settlement. When the idol-like Demon King begins a special “Live” performance, excited monsters rush toward the village and launch an attack.
Players must then fight alongside their residents while making use of upgraded facilities and their chosen combat abilities. This creates a cycle where building a stronger village also becomes part of preparing for the next invasion.
The current Steam beta includes roughly two to three hours of content and can be played up to the first boss. It also supports English, Japanese, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese. The developers are using feedback from the test to continue improving the game.
Warota: I Live Next to The Demon King’s Castle LOL is being developed by Team EARTH WARS and published by One or Eight. The Steam version is planned for winter 2026, while the Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5 versions are scheduled for 2027.
