Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen Reveals Hard Mode, New Skills and More Switch 2 Details

Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is bringing a substantial amount of new content to Nintendo Switch 2. The expansion introduces the frozen region of Norgan, Hard Mode and new skills for existing vocations. It also adds replayable dungeons and a deeper equipment system built around rare relics.

The Nintendo Switch 2 version includes Dragon’s Dogma 2 and the Dark Arisen expansion in one package. There are no Switch 2-exclusive gameplay systems. However, the full adventure can be played in handheld mode, giving Nintendo players another way to explore its world.

Every Vocation Is Getting New Skills

Dark Arisen does not introduce a new vocation, but the existing classes are being expanded with additional skills.

Some abilities from the original Dragon’s Dogma are also returning, while the new Custom Skill EX system adds another layer through special equipment. These EX abilities are tied to certain relics and can provide stronger versions of existing combat options.

The idea is to give each vocation more room to grow without changing the way its core playstyle works.

Hard Mode Adds a Tougher Challenge

Hard Mode is another major addition coming with Dark Arisen. Players will be able to begin a fresh adventure on the higher difficulty or move an existing save into Hard Mode. Once a current playthrough is switched over, the difficulty cannot be lowered again until that run is completed.

The extra challenge also comes with slightly higher experience gains and better rewards, giving experienced players more incentive to take on stronger enemies.

Norgan Makes Exploration More Dangerous

A large part of the new story takes place in Norgan, a frozen northern region where the environment itself can become a threat.

Heavy snowstorms reduce visibility, while extreme cold can lower maximum stamina. Preparation therefore plays a bigger role when exploring the area. Cold-resistant equipment and protective items can help, while some relics also include effects designed to reduce the impact of the climate.

This gives Norgan a different rhythm from the base game, with exploration depending more heavily on preparation and resource management.

12 Replayable Dungeons Expand the Endgame

Dark Arisen also adds 12 dungeon challenges across the game world. Clearing these dungeons for the first time can reward unique weapons and equipment. They are also designed to be replayed, with later runs potentially featuring different enemy combinations.

Materials collected from enemies can be used to strengthen equipment, while the new relic system adds a stronger loot-hunting element. Relic equipment can come with randomly assigned properties and must be appraised before its full effects are revealed.

This creates a more repeatable progression loop for players who want to keep improving their builds after completing the main story content.

Dark Arisen Adds a Much Larger Endgame

The expansion is built around more than a single new storyline. Its new region, Hard Mode, skill additions, replayable dungeons and relic system all push Dragon’s Dogma 2 toward a broader endgame structure.

Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen launches for Nintendo Switch 2 on October 9, 2026. The Switch 2 release includes both the base game and the expansion in a single package.
