Jajamaru is heading back into action with a completely new game. City Connection has announced Jajamaru no Hyakki Yako-den, a hack-and-slash action title coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027.
The game is also planned for PlayStation 5 and PC. It is being developed as a joint project between City Connection and Amazing, with members of the team behind Jajamaru no Yokai Daisakusen involved in its creation.
Jajamaru Takes on Yokai-Filled Dungeons
Jajamaru no Hyakki Yako-den sends the familiar ninja into strange dungeons filled with yokai. Combat revolves around using different weapons and ninja techniques while pushing deeper into these areas.
Jajamaru can equip weapons such as ninja swords and shuriken, giving players different ways to deal with enemies. Clearing dungeons also unlocks new ninjutsu abilities, which should add another layer to character progression.
The main objective is to defeat Nurari Pyoko, a powerful yokai leader planning the largest Hyakki Yako yet. Jajamaru will also need to rescue the kidnapped Princess Sakura along the way.
Your Room Can Make Jajamaru Stronger
One of the more unusual systems appears outside the dungeons.
Players can return to Jajamaru’s Room, which acts as a base between adventures. The room can be customized with furniture, but those decorations are not purely cosmetic. Changing the room can also improve Jajamaru’s stats.
That gives the game a progression loop that goes beyond simply finding stronger weapons. Dungeon rewards, ninjutsu and room customization all contribute to building a stronger version of Jajamaru.
A New Direction for the Long-Running Series
The Ninja Jajamaru-kun series celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2025, but Jajamaru no Hyakki Yako-den is not being presented as another collection or simple revival. Instead, City Connection describes it as a completely new entry built around hack-and-slash action.
A gameplay trailer has also been released, giving an early look at the combat and dungeon exploration. For now, however, several details remain under wraps.
Jajamaru no Hyakki Yako-den is scheduled to launch for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5 and PC sometime in 2027. City Connection has not announced an exact release date or price yet.
