Nintendo Announces Two Directs for September 8 and 9

Nintendo is preparing for a busy week with two major presentations scheduled back-to-back. The company has confirmed a Nintendo Direct September 2026 broadcast for September 9, just one day after a special presentation celebrating the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda.

For viewers in the United States, both presentations will begin at 7:00 a.m. PT / 10:00 a.m. ET.

Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct Comes First

The first presentation will take place on September 8 and focus entirely on The Legend of Zelda.

Nintendo says The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct will run for approximately 30 minutes. It will feature a variety of information connected to the series’ anniversary.

That wording leaves plenty of room for new announcements. However, Nintendo has not revealed exactly what will appear during the broadcast.

The timing is especially interesting because The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is already confirmed to return on Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo announced the new version earlier this year. That makes it one of the obvious games to watch during the anniversary presentation.

Still, players should not assume every rumored Zelda announcement will appear. Nintendo has only confirmed that the Direct will focus on the franchise and its 40th anniversary

Nintendo Direct September 2026 Follows One Day Later

Nintendo will return on September 9 with a much larger general Direct.

The presentation is expected to last around 45 minutes, giving Nintendo considerably more time to cover upcoming releases and new announcements.

Unlike the Zelda presentation, this Direct will not focus on a single franchise. It will instead provide another look at games heading to Nintendo platforms, with Nintendo Switch 2 expected to play a major role.

Nintendo has already built a strong upcoming lineup for the system. Games such as Kingdom Hearts IV, Xenoblade Genesis and several other previously announced titles remain in development, leaving plenty of room for updates alongside potential new reveals.

The company has not provided a full list of games that will appear, so the actual lineup will remain unknown until the presentation begins.

Nintendo Treehouse: Live Will Continue After the Direct

The September 9 broadcast will not end when the Nintendo Direct finishes.

Nintendo has also confirmed a new Nintendo Treehouse: Live presentation immediately afterward. The Treehouse team will show gameplay from selected titles featured during the Direct, giving viewers a closer look at games that may only receive shorter trailers during the main presentation.

Nintendo has used this format before, combining major announcements with longer gameplay demonstrations once the Direct has ended.

That makes September 9 particularly important for Nintendo Switch 2 owners. The main Direct should provide the announcements, while Treehouse: Live will give some of those games more room to show how they actually play.

With a dedicated Zelda presentation on September 8 followed by a full Nintendo Direct and Treehouse broadcast on September 9, Nintendo is effectively turning two consecutive mornings into one extended showcase.

The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct begins September 8 at 7:00 a.m. PT / 10:00 a.m. ET. The Nintendo Direct September 2026 presentation follows at the same time on September 9.
